- ************************************************************
- New Features
- ************************************************************
-
- This section provides information on QuickVerse features
- that were added or changed after the first edition of the
- User's Guide was printed. Newer editions of the User's
- Guide may include this information.
-
- >>> Previous Searches Menu Item (3.0d and newer)
-
- You may use the Previous Searches menu item (found in the
- Search menu) to select and restore a prior search. Please
- refer to the QuickVerse on-line help for additional
- information about this feature.
-
- >>> Display Search Words in Color (3.0d and newer)
-
- You may now choose to display the words that match your
- search specification in a different than normal color.
- Check the "use color for search words" check box in the
- Display Options dialog, then select Colors from the
- Font menu to choose the color you would like to use.
-
- >>> Study Bible Graphics and Headings (3.0e and newer)
-
- Study Bible notes published by Parsons Technology may
- contain graphical items such as maps, charts, and
- pictures.
-
- >>> Support for the NASC (3.0g and newer)
-
- The NASC, short for New American Standard Exhaustive
- Concordance, is similar to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance.
- However, where Strong's is tied to the KJV, the NASC is
- tied to the NASB. Several features have been added to
- support this translation.
-
- >>> Support for the QuickVerse Library (3.0i and newer)
-
- The QuickVerse Library is a STEP compatible book
- reader, used to aid the study of multiple reference
- books, that works with QuickVerse.
-
-
-
- ************************************************************
- Installing QuickVerse Add-On Products
- ************************************************************
-
- QuickVerse for Window and QuickVerse for DOS share many of
- same add-on products, including add-on Bible translations,
- Nave's Topical Bible, Strong's Concordance, and the study
- Bible notes such as the Scofield Study Bible.
-
- Since many of these add-on modules may be used with either
- the Windows or DOS versions of QuickVerse, a DOS-based
- installation program is usually provided.
-
- Each of these add-on products include applicable
- installation instructions. Please refer to these
- instructions for further information on performing the
- installation.
-
-
- ************************************************************
- Installation Error 105
- ************************************************************
-
- Some virus detection and interception programs, such as
- Central Point's VSafe program, may cause erroneous reports
- "File Error 105." If you receive this error while
- installing QuickVerse for Windows, remove VSafe, or
- any other virus detection program, and attempt the
- installation again.
-
-
- ************************************************************
- Font Requirements
- ************************************************************
-
- QuickVerse for Windows version 3 will use the Times New
- Roman True Type font as the default font. You may, of
- course, change the fonts using the Fonts menu.
-
- The verse list windows (Search List, Index List, and Note
- List) work best when used with a 12 point or smaller font.
- If you use a larger font, the abbreviated search word may
- not be displayed in the verse fragment.
-
- Some QuickVerse dialog boxes require a smaller-than-normal
- font. For instance, the Options:Translations dialog box
- uses the Arial 8 point font.
-
-
- ************************************************************
- Font Compatibility
- ************************************************************
-
- QuickVerse for Windows is compatible with most Windows
- fonts and font packages.
-
- Many apparent font errors, such as garbled text being
- displayed or no text being displayed, may actually be
- caused by incompatibilities with video drivers or 3rd
- party font programs.
-
- If you experience problems with certain fonts or font styles
- when using QuickVerse for Windows, use the Windows Setup
- program to change your video driver and/or video resolution.
- (Remember to make a note of which driver and resolution you
- were originally using so you can easily restore it!) You
- may find that this will cause the problem to "go away."
-
- You may have trouble if you use fonts supplied with
- Publisher's PowerPak, by Atech Software. We do not
- recommend that you use these fonts when using
- QuickVerse for Windows.
-
-
- ************************************************************
- Compatibility with Sound Products
- ************************************************************
-
- We have been made aware that the Wired for Sound program
- contains a bug that causes it to crash the computer,
- generally resulting in a reset being required, when both of
- the following conditions occur:
-
- - an action occurs that generates a sound in Wired for
- Sound, and
- - when the current application does not have any free
- file resources available.
-
- Since QuickVerse for Windows uses more file resources than
- most applications, it is much more likely that you will
- encounter this bug in Wired for Sound when using QuickVerse
- than when using many other Windows applications. The only
- solution to this problem is to disable or close Wired for
- Sound while using programs such as QuickVerse that routinely
- access several data files.
-
- Other Windows "sound" products may generate the same errors
- as Wired for Sound, discussed above.
-
- Additionally, such programs have been known to halt the
- computer when QuickVerse for Windows displays a QuickVerse
- Message window. The symptom of this problem is that
- QuickVerse appears not to display any buttons in the message
- window. However, the actual cause of the problem is the sound
- program. Removing the sound program eliminates this problem.
-
-
- ************************************************************
- List of Word Processors that can not be Customized
- ************************************************************
-
- The following word processing programs are known to not be
- customizable using the Customize Word Processor feature.
-
- WordPerfect for Windows (when used with Windows version
- 3.0 only... it may be customized when used with
- version 3.1)
- PFS:Publisher
- PFS:WindowsWorks
-
- Additionally, some versions of Microsoft Word are not
- customizable until the edit menu has been selected.
-
- By the way, Dynamic Data Exchange is the preferred
- method of exchanging data between the applications. In
- other words, if the program will support DDE, you should
- generally attempt to connect via DDE instead of via the
- word processor customization feature.
-
-
- ************************************************************
- Windows 95 Compatibility
- ************************************************************
-
- QuickVerse for Windows is compatible with Windows 95,
- with the minor exceptions shown below.
-
- 1. Version of QV/Win prior to version 3.0h may display
- error message 10633 the first time that a note file
- is opened or a note is displayed. This message occurs
- only once per session and may be safely ignored.
-
- 2. Windows 3.1 provides two button in the upper left
- corner of a window -- minimize and maximize. Windows
- 95 provides three buttons -- minimize, maximize, and
- close. When running QV/Win under Windows 95, the
- minimize button for the Bible windows may not be
- visible. Clicking to the left of the maximize button,
- however, will still cause the window to be minimized.
-
-

- Word Processor Macros Supplied with QuickVerse
- ************************************************************
-
- Three interested QuickVerse users have prepared macros for
-
- Word for Windows, version 6
- AmiPro, version 3
- WordPerfect for Windows, version 6.0a
-
- These macros provide links between the word processor and
- many of our Bible study related products. If you use one of
- these word processors, then you might find one of these
- macros useful.
-
- The macros are installed in a directory called MACROS in
- your QuickVerse directory. The files are
-
- PARSONS.DOT A Word for Windows template
- file... open this file for more
- information and instructions.
-
- PARSONS.SMM An AmiPro macro file
-
- PARSONS.SAM An AmiPro document... open this
- file for more information and
- instructions.
-
- WORDPERF.EXE This is a self-extracting archive
- that will create two files that
- can be used with WordPerfect
- version 6.0a. It is supplied in
- a compressed form because these files
- are substantially larger than the
- other macro files. Run this program
- to create the following files.
-
- PARSONS.WP6 - A documentation file. If this file
- is not present, run the WORDPERF.EXE
- file to create it. Open this file
- for more information and
- instructions.
-
- PARSONS.WPT - The macro file for WordPerfect for
- Windows 6.0a. It is not compatible
- with prior versions of WordPerfect.
- If this file is not present, run the
- WORDPERF.EXE file to create it.
-
- PLEASE NOTE: These macros are included only with the
- original QuickVerse for Windows version 3 product. They
- are not included on any update disks. The WordPerfect
- macros were unavailable when version 3.0c was released.
- Therefore, this macro is included only with version 3.0d
- and newer. Contact technical support if you need a copy
- of one of these macros.
-
- COMPUSERVE USERS: The newest copies of these macros may
- be downloaded from the file library in the PTFORUM.
-
- NOTE FOR QUICKVERSE CD USERS: Your CD contains a directory
- called MACROS that contains these files. They are not
- installed to your hard drive.
-
- To use any of these macros or templates, first read the
- associated documentation file. You may also refer to your
- word processor's user guide for additional information.
-
- Our developers and technical support staff are not able to
- be expert in the many available word processors. Please
- contact the authors of these macros to offer your thanks
- for their efforts, to report any problems, or for additional
- assistance.
-
- For technical information regarding Dynamic Data Exchange,
- refer to the file DDE.TXT contained in your QuickVerse
- directory.

- Answers to a Few Common Questions
- ************************************************************
-
- Q: Should I be in the habit of making backup files?
-
- A: Absolutely! If your index and note files contain data
- that is valuable to you, make regular backups of these
- files to help reduce the possibility of data loss.
-
- Q: What is the purpose of an unsorted index?
-
- A: One of the purposes of an unsorted index is to rearrange
- the order of the verses from biblical order to your
- order. As an example, suppose that you are creating a
- lesson on tithing. You may want to start with verses
- from the New Testament and then get a few from the Old
- Testament. You could list them in the index in the order
- you wanted to refer to them. Then when the index is
- printed, the verses will be listed in your order, not in
- biblical order. You could even repeat verses by
- inserting the same verse into the index multiple times.
-
- By the way, by combining this feature with the notes
- feature, your whole lesson could be prepared from within
- QuickVerse.
-
- Q: After I perform a search, the search words are not
- displayed in boldface even though I have that option
- turned on in the Display Options dialog box. Why not?
-
- A: In some fonts such as the system font, the difference
- between "bold" and "normal" is difficult to discern. If
- there is not enough contrast between bold and normal, try
- selecting a different font.
-
- Q: How often do I need to press the "update" button in the
- Word Processor Customization dialog box?
-
- A: The update button in the Word Processor Customization
- dialog box can be used at any time that you want to
- provide a link between QuickVerse and the other
- applicaton.
-
- If the other application is running before QuickVerse is
- started, the QuickVerse may be able to establish the link
- when it is started. If not, just press the update
- button.
-
- If you close the application and start it again while
- QuickVerse is still running, you will need to press the
- update button to create the link.
-
- Q: Are the clipboard setup options used when "copy" is
- selected from the Edit menu?
-
- A: No. The "cut" and "copy" menu commands in the edit menu
- cut or copy the highlighted text as displayed. The only
- clipboard formats that are used in these cases are the
- settings for whether to use boldface for search words,
- italic for supplied words, and red to signify Words of
- Christ.
-
- If you want to use these options when copying verses
- to the clipbaord, choose the Copy Formatted item from
- the Edit menu.
-
- Q: How big is the Windows clipboard? Can I make it any
- bigger?
-
- A: The Windows clipboard can contain about 65,000 characters.
- It is not possible to make it any bigger. Also, when
- pasting in rich text format (where either bold, italics,
- or red words are used) can cause the clipboard to fill up
- faster.
